Stop the presses, John Singleton a director who rose to prominence in the early nineties with his gritty urban dramas has creatively hit rock bottom. The man who received an Oscar nomination for his breakout hit Boyz N the Hood, will direct Taylor Lautner in his next film, Abduction.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate confirmed Singleton as the go-to-guy to direct the feature that will have a script written by Shawn Christensen. If you’re wondering what the story is about here’s the low down: Abduction centers on “a youth who discovers the parents who raised him aren’t his real folks, a revelation that triggers events and leaves him running for his life.” Um, yeah that sounds like something that has John Singleton written all over it (shifty eyes).
Lautner will film Abduction before he jumps ‘paw’ first into filming The Twilight Saga‘s final installment, Breaking Dawn. I can’t explain how disappointed I am in this decision. Yes, Singleton has had some hits and misses in the directing department but to take on a Taylor Lautner movie? This leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Lautner seems to be a meal ticket for a lot of Hollywood executives and I’m afraid to see what’s next for the young star.
Are you shocked that John Singleton will direct a Taylor Lautner movie?
