Paul WS Anderson to Direct Buck Rogers in 3D!
By Krystal Clark
Paul W.S. Anderson wants to continue his all out assault on everything we love by tackling Buck Rogers. According to Deadline the Resident Evil helmer has signed on to direct the futuristic sci-fi film that’s set for release in 3D (no surprise there). Two writers have also been tapped to pen the screenplay for the flick and both of them have experience in the comic book genre.
According to the site, this take on Rogers will be a “new version of the classic tale of a fighter pilot who quickly acclimates to the future and puts his skills to use defending the planet against invaders.” The screenplay will be written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway who previously penned the script for 2008′s Iron Man. That movie turned out to be a commercial and critical hit, but can they do the same for this character?
The rights for the property are owned by Paradox the same folks behind the Marcus Nispel Conan reboot that’s currently in production. They will co-finance the Rogers adaptation along with Anderson’s partner, Jeremy Bolt and Fredrik Malmberg, Larry Abramson and George Furla.
When it comes to Paul W.S. Anderson, am I the only one who has reservations? I have yet to be completely satisfied with any of his Resident Evil movies, and do I even need to bring up AVP: Alien vs Predator and Death Race? Come on, guys we’re trusting him with Buck Rogers now?
What do you think about Anderson directing Buck Rogers? Do you think he can do a decent adaptation of the story?

Buck Rogers is sufficiently cheesy in every version that I'm not as worried about Anderson as some. My question is why they're even bothering with the property. Does it fall out of copyright if it's left alone too long or something? There are better scripts out there with original characters being ignored in this rehash with 3D craze. I'm tired of it.
