It appears that Izzie Stevens has finally come clean and announced her departure from her gig at Seattle Grace. Actress Katherine Heigl confirms in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly that she has left “Grey’s Anatomy” and taken her rambunctious character with her. Weeks ago there was speculation that the she was done with the show when she didn’t return for work on March 1st, and now we know why.
In a one on one interview with the magazine, Heigl explains what it really was that prompted her to ask series creator Shonda Rhimes to be let go from “Grey’s.” She claims that her exit didn’t have so much to do with her fledgling movie career as it did her growing family. She recently became a mother and it made her realize that she had to change her focus a little bit. She took a three month maternity leave from the show this season, which is why her character Izzie has barely been present.
She was originally set to appear in this season’s final 5 episodes, but that’s no longer happening. That means her appearance on the January 21st episode earlier this year was her last, an uneventful exit to her over-dramatic character. “I know I’m disappointing the fans,” she says. I just had to make a choice. I hope I made the right one.”
She went on to give an update on the deal between her and the studio saying,
“I am done,” declares Heigl. “We just finalized our agreement. Everyone had been working really hard to find an amicable and gracious way of letting go and moving on. It’s sad but it’s what I wanted.”
Well there you have it. “Grey’s Anatomy” is another resident short with the absence of T.R. Knight and now Katherine Heigl. What’s a show to do?
Do you think Grey’s Anatomy will get better or worse with Heigl gone? Are you happy or upset by her departure?
