Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz is on his way to having a multifaceted career thanks to his latest gig. THR reports that the Austrian actor will make his feature directing debut with the German-language film Auf Und Davon (Up, Up and Away) for Fox International Productions.
The movie’s screenplay will be written by Waltz and loosely based on the German novel of the same name by Meike Winnemuth and Peter Praschl. The plot surrounds the hostess of a dating show competition who falls for one of the contestants.
Waltz has previously directed for German TV in the past and Fox approached him about a film shortly after Inglourious Basterds premiered at Cannes. It’s possible that Waltz will also co-star in the project, which will have him following in the footsteps of Quentin Tarantino who is known for playing minor parts in his movies.
As for his other upcoming film work, Waltz recently wrapped The Green Hornet and is currently working on Water for Elephants, so he’s got a full-plate right now. He’s such a talented actor, I can’t wait to see him work his magic behind the camera.
Do you think Waltz has what it takes to direct a feature film?
