After weeks of heavy speculation regarding who will play Captain America several sources are claiming that one actor has been selected from the shortlist. Originally, there were seven candidates named that included John Krasinski, Mike Vogel, Patrick Flueger, Chace Crawford, Garrett Hedlund, Scott Porter, and Michael Cassidy. Then it was cut down to Vogel and Hedlund with the addition of Chris Evans, who were shortly joined by Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum, and Sebastian Stan. Now we’re hearing from multiple sources that Evans has in fact been offered the lead in The First Avenger: Captain America.

THR is reporting that Marvel has extended a deal to Evans who previously worked with the company on two Fantastic Four films as the hot-headed (literally) Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch. If Evans decides to take on the role he will be obligated to star in multiple sequels and of course the upcoming Avengers movie. This might sound like the gig of a lifetime but it’s a lot more complicated than you think.

Evans isn’t sure if he wants to jump back into a superhero role (everyone doesn’t have Ryan Reynolds syndrome), and he’s already scheduled to shoot a comedy this summer with Anna Faris, which is the same time Captain America is set to begin. Overall, the idea of starring in this movie would take up a big chunk of the actor’s life.

This could be similar to how Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine for a decade, with the only difference being that Evans won’t get paid as much. We hear the base pay rate is 300,000 dollars, which isn’t much for a huge tentpole of this stature.

Do you think Chris Evans would be a good fit for the role? Do you think he should accept the part?
