Now that the Hollywood awards season is over, we can sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the theatrical year. The biggest film of 2009 was Avatar, and it will be available for your home viewing this spring, but not on just any day, it will be released on Earth Day. Coincidence? Nope, just transparent motives at work.
Twentieth Century Fox has been toiling over when they’d debut their biggest theatrical release on DVD and the decision has finally been made. Avatar will be available for you to rent or own starting April 22nd. The day holds a special significance, because not only is it Earth Day but it’s the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! A lot of you are probably excited to see what James Cameron has in store for the us with the DVD extras, but unfortunately the first edition of the film won’t have much to offer.
Since the studio plans on re-releasing Avatar in theaters with new footage and more breathtaking 3D they forgot to put some goodies on the disc. If I were you, I’d wait until the next batch is released when the movie is far away from theaters and the home entertainment market is the studio’s main concern.
Here’s what you can expect from the Blu-ray disc…
AVATAR on Blu-ray presents the ultimate high definition experience for home viewing audiences. Fans around the world will soon be able to discover every detail and relive every moment of James Cameron’s AVATAR in the comfort of their own home. Blu-ray is recognized for presenting optimal picture and sound, and now AVATAR’s masterful cinematography, art direction and visual effects will lend itself to awe-inspiring clarity when you become absorbed in the extraordinary all-encompassing experience in the living room.
I need excessive extras in order for this film to warrant a purchase. Until then, I’m going to hold out.
Will you rush out to buy Avatar when it’s released on DVD or will you wait it out?
