Stop the presses! Weeks ago when the shortlist of directors for Paranormal Activity 2 were released Akiva Goldsman was one of the candidates mentioned, but not in a million years did anyone think he would actually take the job. According to Shock Till You Drop, he’s in the lead to helm the sequel to Paramount’s breakout hit from last year.
Paranormal Activity 2 is slated for release on October 22nd, and we’re hearing that an announcement regarding the director should be made soon. We’re already knocking on spring, the fall months will be here before they know it, so sources close to the project are saying that Goldsman has this gig in the bag.
Goldsman is more known for his screenwriting background which includes films like The Client, followed by A Time to Kill, Batman Forever, I Am Legend, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. He’s also directed a couple of episodes of the JJ Abrams Fox drama, “Fringe.” Some of Goldsman’s known competition for Paranormal Activity 2 includes the veteran Brian De Palma and the newbie Greg McLean.
Is it bad that I couldn’t care less who directs this movie? It was a one time deal that was great while it lasted. Visions of The Blair Witch sequel continues to run across my mind when this movie is mentioned. If that’s not a bad omen I don’t know what is.
Do you think Goldsman should direct Paranormal Activity 2? Should they even make a sequel?
