The cast for Martin Campbell’s adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Lantern continues to grow. According to a report from THR, Kiwi natives Taika Waititi and Temuera Morrison have signed on to co-star in the film. The movie which is scheduled to begin production this week in New Orleans, features Ryan Reynolds as the title character aka Hal Jordan.

If Morrison’s name sounds a bit familiar it’s probably because of his role as Jango Fett in the last Star Wars movies. In Lantern he will play “Abin Sur, a member of the Corps who is instrumental in Jordan becoming the superhero.” On the other hand, Waititi will star as “the best friend of Hal Jordan, the test pilot who comes to wear the super-powered ring of the interplanetary police force known as the Green Lantern Corps.”

The duo will join the film’s supporting cast that currently includes Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, Tim Robbins as Senator Hammond, and Mark Strong as Sinestro. Waititi, has a background as a writer and director with projects such as Two Cars, One Night, which earned him an Oscar nomination in 2005, and Eagle vs. Shark, which won him best screenplay at the US Comedy Arts Festival.

Green Lantern is scheduled to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.

What do you think of Morrison and Waititi starring in Green Lantern? Are you familar with either of their previous works?
