When we announced that Dermot Mulroney was set to star in the NBC remake of “The Rockford Files,” a lot of you were interested in how they would pull it off. Sure, he’s a talented actor but what about the revamped premise and the supporting cast? One of those questions have been semi-answered thanks to a casting scoop by EW. The role of LAPD sergeant Dennis Becker has been filled, and he’ll be played by the awesome Alan Tudyk.
If you know anything about cult television, you should recognize Tudyk’s name. He starred in the short lived Joss Whedon series “Firefly,” and appeared in the film version, Serenity. He’s also popped up in other movies like Dodgeball and I, Robot but he’s returning to television in the “Rockford” remake as Becker, whom was originally played by Joe Santos.
The new “Rockford Files” is created by David Shore, the same guy behind the Fox hit, “House,” which means he has some credibility. Alan Tudyk’s casting will earn the series some major fanboy points, and I’ve already moved it up a few spots on my must watch pilot list. But there are still several roles that need to be filled like Jim’s dad and his ex-cellmate, Angel. Who should they get to play those characters?
What do you think of Tudyk joining The Rockford Files? Will you watch the remake?
