If you were a popular young actor in the 1980′s you were in one of two groups, The Brat Pack or The Coreys. The latter consisted of Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, and unfortunately one of them is no longer with us. Corey Haim was found dead at the young age of 38 on Wednesday morning at 2:15 a.m. The former teen star known for his uphill battle with drug abuse over the years has unfortunately had his life cut short.
According to Yahoo, an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death for Haim but until then the police aren’t giving any official details. Before he died he was suffering from flu-like symptoms and was getting over-the-counter and prescription medications, Police Sgt. William Mann said. Officials are still unsure if that’s what caused his death or if there was another issue at hand.
Haim had been fighting a public battle with drugs for years, and he acknowledged that he smoked his first joint on the set of The Lost Boys, before moving on to crack and cocaine shortly after. His career wasn’t filled with longevity but the small jewels he did give us included the heartwarming coming of age drama Lucas, which featured the actor as a nerdy high school student who joins the football team to impress his dream girl.
Haim also went on to star in a slew of “Corey” films including License to Drive. In recent years the duo reunited for an A&E reality series called “The Two Coreys,” which lasted two seasons before they called it quits due to Haim’s relapse into drugs. When appearing on a 2007 episode of “Larry King Live” the actor stated that he would be a chronic relapser for the rest of his life.
Such a sad end to such a talented individual. RIP, Corey Haim.
