John Krasinski in The Lead For Captain America?

Who doesn’t like John Krasinski as Jim from “The Office?” He’s hilarious on that show and one of the main reasons to watch, but could you love him as Captain America? We’re already well aware of the short list of actors who are fighting tooth and nail for the part, but now we’re hearing that Krasinski is actually at the top of the list.
According to a report from Fox 411, Krasinski is closer than any other contender to take on the role of Steve Rogers aka The First Avenger aka Captain America. Their sources say that the actor has repeatedly appeared in front of the film’s producers auditioning for the part for a total of 4 times. He’s already screen tested twice and is said to be “a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week.”
“The big bosses are having him read with multiple actresses up for the female leads. They want to lock down the role and then they will narrow down everyone else. If John gets offered the role, the pay will not be outrageous but it would be a multi-film deal. Marvel has big plans to tie the movies together and John would have parts in all of them since the first Captain America will be an origin story. The movie will break down how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America. ”
What the hell are they thinking? Who wants to see him in this role? Don’t get me wrong, the selection of actors short listed for the film include some slim pickings to begin with. It started with seven actors Krasinski, Mike Vogel, Patrick Flueger, Chace Crawford, Garret Hedlund, Scott Porter, and Michael Cassidy. The latter two are no longer in the running so we’re left with five of the most unlikeliest candidates I’ve ever seen.
This isn’t like Robert Downey Jr for Iron Man or Heath Ledger for The Joker, because with those actors you could at least see something in them that could work for the character. For Ledger it was his talent, for Downey it was his ability to grow a full goatee, with Krasinski and Captain America, I’ve got nothing.

Considering that this actor will most likely be used for multiple-films, it seems very important that the actor chosen be someone who, hands down, can command, no pun intended, the character adequately and supremely! As it is, this could be the biggest miss-cast since Keaton landed the role as the Dark Knight! Time will only tell.
The actor chosen must have a commanding presence while remaining human and likable. Does this actor have the potential to fit those characteristics?
