For some books and films, making sequels or prequels is fine because of how well the stories flow with each part (ex. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Kill Bill, Harry Potter, the comic-based Superhero movies, etc) . Certain stories are best left where they are when they end and Trainspotting (the book and movie) is one of them. You know when Hollywood or a novel writer runs out of creativity when they create a half-assed sequel or prequel. Completely agree with McGregor.
