Over the past year Mickey Rourke has taken on some seriously epic roles, and he’s about to add another one to his growing resume. According to Variety, the Oscar nominated actor has officially signed on to star in War of the Gods, the Greek inspired war film that will be directed by Tarsem Singh. Are you ready to see Rourke star as an old school badass from back in the day?

We previously reported that Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto was cast in the film as Phaedra, an oracle priestess who aids a young warrior on his quest. That young warrior will be played by one of the stars of the Showtime series, “The Tudors,” Henry Cavill. War of the Gods will center on a man named Theseus who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind.

Rourke has signed on to star as the film’s villain, King Hyperion so it sounds like he and Cavill will be going toe to toe, Greek style. Rourke will also appear as Conan the Barbarian’s dad in the remake of the 1982 film, which means someone likes playing larger than life characters but can you really blame him? He’s going to be a barbarian, a god, and a Russian villain in Iron Man 2. That’s an awesome slate to have for the next few years.

What do you think of Rourke starring as the main villain in War of the Gods? Do you think he’s a good fit for the character?
