Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds will butt heads in the DreamWorks animated comedy The Croods. Set in prehistoric times, Cage will voice Crug, a tribal leader who ushers his people after an earthquake destroys their home and Reynolds’ character will be the modern nomad who scares Crug out of his old ways. This sounds sort of interesting, right?
At the helm of this cavemen comedy is Space Chimps‘ director Kirk DeMicco and Lilo and Stitch‘s Chris Sanders who will also co-write the film. For Sanders, it’s his second animated feature with DWA. He also co-directed and co-wrote How to Train Your Dragon, which is set for release later next month.
The Croods‘ is already scheduled for release on March 30, 2012, which gives the studio and the directors a good amount of time to make this film decent. DreamWorks has produced some of the most successful animated films of all time like their ogre-based Shrek franchise.
As of late, the studio has been releasing a lot of their films in 3D, so plan on seeing the cavemen get up close and personal with audiences when The Croods hits the silver screen in a couple of years.
What do you think of The Croods so far? Can you imagine Ryan Reynolds and Nicolas Cage going toe to toe?
