A new trailer has been released for the updated version of the 1984 classic, The Karate Kid. The film stars Jaden Smith in the title role and Jackie Chan as his martial arts mentor and trainer. The first trailer dropped over the Christmas break, and now a couple of months later the new theatrical version has hit the net.

Smith stars in the the lead as a troubled youth named Dre who encounters severe bullying when he is forced to move overseas to China due to his mother’s job. Oscar nominated actress Taraji P. Henson stars as his mom Sherry, in the film produced by the actor’s real father Will Smith.

Once again, I’m on the fence with this whole thing. If you’re a Karate Kid purist at heart it’s hard to accept a remake. The 1984 version was so great and has a nostalgia factor for a lot of people, but this trailer doesn’t look that bad. I’m not sure if I’ll go see it on my own accord just yet, but there’s still time between now and June 11th when the movie opens in theaters.

Still don't know why it's called "The Karate Kid", being set in China with Jackie Chan and all…BUT the seemingly sheer difference in the movies is the ONLY reason that I am giving it a chance. I consider the original Karate Kid movie a classic, and it is virtually untouchable. If the studio had recast Daniel-san and Mr. Miyagi, I wouldn't be seeing it. BUT seeing both of these trailers, I can't lie: I'm going to see it. MAYBE not in theatres, but I WILL see it. I'm just being honest. Just being honest.
