At last night’s British Academy of Television and Film Arts awards Twilight actress Kristen Stewart beat out some heavy competition to take home the BAFTA Orange Rising Star trophy. It’s an annual honor that’s voted on by the general public, and among the other prestigious nominees Stewart managed to walk out the big winner.

To earn the coveted title as the year’s biggest rising star Stewart had to beat her Adventureland co-star Jesse Eisenberg, An Education’s Carey Mulligan, and A Single Man’s Nicholas Hoult among others. There’s no need to feel too bad for Mulligan because she did manage to walk away with the Best actress award, which was a much better consolation prize. When Stewart took to the stage she gave a nervous yet genuine speech that focused primarily on those hardcore Twilight fans out there.

“I guess first I have to thank all the fans of Twilight for proving again and again to be the most devoted and attentive fans ever,” Kristen said. “Considering this is voted, credit is due to them so thank you.”

Who would have thought that Twilight would have made its way to such a prestigious film event like the BAFTAs? Those fans can get in anywhere, and they managed to take over the ballot in the one category that they could. Stewart has a lot to look forward to this year and we’re not only talking about The Twilight Saga Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, we’re referring to the biopic The Runaways and her indie flick Welcome to the Rileys. She can’t just be Bella Swan for the rest of her career.

Did you vote for Stewart at this year’s BAFTAs? Do you think she deserved the Orange Rising Star Award?
