Carla Gugino Replaces Salma Hayek in Faster

Carla Gugino is set to star opposite her Race to Witch Mountain co-star Dwayne Johnson in the action flick Faster. She will be replacing Salma Hayek who was originally cast as the female lead in the film that will mark Johnson’s return to darker material. As of late he’s been doing more family oriented projects, but Faster is a different kind of animal.

The story for Faster centers on an ex-con hell bent on avenging his brothers death. Johnson will play a character named Driver, while Billy Bob Thornton will star as a veteran cop who trails him as he races to settle with those responsible for his brother’s murder. Also in the mix is Killer, an egocentric hitman who’s after Driver. According to Variety, Gugino has been hired to step in to star as a detective on Driver’s trail who’s trying to wrap up a decade old case.

Faster is directed by George Tillman Jr. and also stars Maggie Grace and Moon Bloodgood. There are a lot of women being added to this cast, which is rare in a big action movie. If Gugino’s a cop, I’m assuming one of the other actresses will be a love interest, and the other could be a villain of some sort. Just throwing that out there.
