Has Hollywood gotten to the point where they can’t tell Robert De Niro and Al Pacino apart? According to THR, one Oscar winner has been swapped out for another for the upcoming thriller Son of No One. The film originally had De Niro set to star as the lead, but according to the trade he’s been replaced by his Godfather 2 and Righteous Kill co-star, Pacino.
Son of No One is a cop thriller that will be directed by Dito Montiel who previously helmed A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and Fighting. The story will center on a young cop who works the beat in his old neighborhood, with an old secret surfacing and threatening to destroy his life and family. Word has it that Channing Tatum is in the running to star as the young cop, which would mark his third film with Montiel being that he worked on his previous two.
Joining Pacino, we have Katie Holmes, Ray Liotta, and Terrence Howard who are all in various stages of negotiations with their contracts. Logically, Tatum doesn’t have the acting chops to hang with Pacino but my gut tells me that Montiel is going to bring him on board regardless and that could spell disaster.
What do you think about Pacino replacing De Niro in Son of No One? Who would have been a better fit?
