Jack Bauer is going on a short hiatus thanks to his alter-ego, Kiefer Sutherland. It’s been announced that the Emmy winning actor has called for the production of his hit series “24” to be shut down due to a medical emergency. It’s nothing life threatening but it will cause the actor to be out of commission, which means everyone else will too.
Earlier this week while on set, Sutherland ruptured a cyst near his kidney. The actor and executive producer of the show left while production continued without him until Friday. That was the last day of the normal “24″ schedule, and until the actor recovers from his procedure the series will be down and out for a week. Sutherland’s publicist recently released a statement regarding the situation, and here’s what she had to say,
“While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and Fox decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now as a precaution as opposed to six weeks from now when production wraps. He looks forward to returning to work next week.”
This rupture must be pretty serious, because we all know how much Sutherland loves this show and its fans. But they’re right, it’s better to get the surgery done now instead of allowing it to get worse over time. Make sure you send all your get well wishes to Kiefer while he’s in recovery because he’ll need them.
Do you think this break will have an effect on the show’s normal schedule?
