When it comes to the upcoming Captain America film adaptation fans of the character are stuck on the outside looking in. We already know who’s playing Thor and Iron Man is a given, yet the First Avenger, Steve Rogers has yet to be cast. The film will be directed by The Wolfman helmer Joe Johnston and he’s been vaguely dropping hints about who he wants to tackle the role.

While out doing promotion for Wolfman, Johnston has found himself bombarded with questions about his next film, The First Avenger Captain America. As a fan of the Avengers series, I can understand the restless nature of reporters when it comes to the movie. People want to know what’s going on and he hasn’t supplied any real answers. All we know is that a lot of names have been linked to the role including Australian actor Sam Worthington, which seems a little far-fetched.

Johnston claims that he doesn’t want someone who’s already in the spotlight. “I’m looking for a complete unknown,” he declared. So far three names have popped up as possible contenders for the role including “Chuck’s” Ryan McPartlin, Cam Gigandet (Twilight), and even Chad Michael Murray (“One Tree Hill“). None of these three mentioned are formidable candidates in my eyes. They have to understand that whoever they choose will have to take on the leadership role in the Avenger‘s movie. Could you imagine any of these guys giving orders to Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man? I don’t think so.

Who do you think should play Captain America?
