For months there’s been speculation about who would be cast in the upcoming spin-off of the hit CBS drama, “Criminal Minds.” According to THR, the leading female role has been filled with one of the stars of Tron Legacy, Beau Garrett. That’s right the model-turned actress has been pretty busy these past few years and now she’s headlining her own show.
A few weeks back it was announced that Oscar winner Forest Witaker had been cast as the male lead on the series (why would he go back to TV at this point?), and now Garrett is following suit. The actress has had roles in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and has done some television work on HBO’s “Entourage.”
According to the trade, the new “Criminal Minds” will be introduced this spring via the original series. It will revolve around a new group of profilers, led by Cooper (Whitaker), who work outside the FBI bureaucracy. CBS has gotten really trigger happy with all of their spin-offs. They’ve exhausted “CSI,” but they seem to be doing well with the freshman show “NCIS: Los Angeles.”
On the surface, all of the network’s procedural dramas look the same, but they must be giving audiences what they want because the ratings are through the roof. All three of the franchises, (“CSI,” “NCIS,” and “Criminal Minds”) are constantly in the top 10, when it comes to viewership. We should have known that another one wouldn’t be too far behind.
What do you think about Garrett and Whitaker leading the Criminal Minds spin-off? Do you think they’re a good pair?
