There was speculation a few months ago that the folks over at Summit Entertainment were looking to stretch the potential of the Twilight franchise with the final film. The last feature adaptation will be entitled Breaking Dawn, and according to Deadline Hollywood, deals have been signed to break the film into two parts similar to Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.

According to Nikki Finke’s sources, the Breaking Dawn movie will definitely be broken up into two installments. Summit is currently looking at several “high end directors” to take on the films, which should begin production in October of this year. Breaking Dawn is the longest book within the Twilight series and it features the most crucial and graphic parts of the overall story. The most important one being the birth of Bella and Edward’s child, despite the reservations of those around them.

Breaking Dawn was originally published a couple of months before the first Twilight film hit theaters in August of 2008, and it’s narrative features the perspective of multiple characters.

Divided into 3 parts, the 1st and 3rd sections are told from the point of view of Bella (Kristen Stewart), and the second section from the perspective of Jacob (Taylor Lautner). It prominently features all 3 favorite characters including Edward (Robert Pattinson).

Summit’s decision to stretch their cash cow a little longer isn’t a surprise to anyone. The series has been a corporate blessing for the studio that was nowhere near as popular as it is now prior to Twilight‘s release. Too bad for those of you who wanted to see everything wrapped up in one two hour film. It looks like you’re going to have to wait it out just like the Harry Potter people.

How do you feel about Breaking Dawn being released as two films? Is it a good idea?
