Sony is pulling out all the stops when it comes to their rebooted version of the Spider-Man franchise. Over at Deadline Hollywood, they’ve confirmed via a statement from the studio that the new film will follow in the footsteps of every other movie these days, it will be in 3D.
According to the official press release, Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution announced that Spider-Man will be swinging into theaters on July 3, 2012 and it will be in 3D. The statement went on to say that they will begin production on the film later this year under the direction of Marc Webb, with a screenplay by James Vanderbilt.
Blake said, “Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise.”
The studio seems rather eager to get this movie into theaters, and their capitalizing on the hottest trend that’s out right now. Unfortunately the 3D gimmick is starting wear thin on people’s nerves. By the time this movie is released, it might not be the hippest thing to do. But now that Sony has officially confirmed the news, I’m expecting an announcement from IMAX Theaters in 5,4,3,2,…
