Summit Entertainment continues to branch out into other genre’s of film by acquiring the Seth Rogen produced comedy, formally titled, I’m With Cancer. The film stars James McAvoy as the lead with Rogen on board in a supporting role. They’ll be joined by two actresses from the Twilight camp (conveniently) Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard.
According to THR, Summit has picked up the North American rights for the film that’s based on the true story of Will Reiser, who will be played by McAvoy. Reiser was diagnosed with cancer in his mid-20s and successfully battled the disease over several years. Rogen will play his close friend, while Kendrick will star as a young psychologist assigned to handle the young man’s case despite her lack of real life experience.
The untitled film will be directed by Jonathan Levine who also helmed the indie comedy, The Wackness. The folks over at Summit had nothing but good things to say about the acquisition.
“It’s rare to find a script that has you laughing and crying in equal measure or a cast and director as perfectly suited to get the tone of this unique and moving film as perfectly right,” Summit president of production Erik Feig said.
They didn’t really stretch with the casting for this film, but at least they have a group of actors with actual talent. McAvoy, Howard, and Kendrick sound like a match made in heaven.
