George Lucas is a very rich, very talented individual who’s managed to create one of the most iconic film franchises in Hollywood history, but you don’t get to that level of success without pissing a couple of people off. The upcoming film, The People vs. George Lucas examines the tumultuous relationship between the Star Wars creator and his obsessive fans.

The film features interviews from both fans and Hollywood producers and writers including a testimony from Gary Kurtz, the producer of Lucas’ hits The Empire Strikes Back, American Graffiti, and of course, Star Wars. The film took 2 1/2 years to make and combines the knowledge and experience of those on the inside and outside of Lucas’ fold. The film is described as “the examination of a high-profile, dysfunctional love story” and will shed a light on how Star Wars isn’t just a movie, it’s a legacy.

The People vs George Lucas is directed by Alexandre O. Philippe and is a no-holds-barred cultural examination of the conflicted dynamic between George Lucas and his fans over the past three decades. The film will be screened at this year’s SXSW Festival, which will run between March 12 – 20, 2010 in Austin, Texas.
