Just last week we learned that 007 himself, Daniel Craig would take over the lead role in the sci-fi western Cowboys & Aliens, and now he’s found his leading lady. According to THR, actress Olivia Wilde will star opposite the actor in the DreamWorks production that will be adapted from the comic of the same name.
The Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Wilde is in negotiations to play a character named Ella, “who joins up with the mysterious gunslinger in an unlikely uprising against an alien invasion.” The mysterious gunslinger is Craig’s character Zeke Jackson, a role that originally cast with Robert Downey Jr., but went to Craig when Downey opted to do Sherlock Holmes 2 instead.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing and wrote the script with “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof. Wherever there’s a project dealing with fantasy meeting reality, these three are always somewhere in the mix.
The story for Cowboys & Aliens will center on outer-space creatures who land in Arizona circa the mid-19th century intent on enslaving the local population — until a group of cowboys and Apache Indians fight back. Jackson is the revolt leader and a very talented gunman. Daniel Craig is an awesome actor, but for some odd reason it’s hard for me to see him as a dirty, cowboy. Maybe it’s because of all those tailored suits he wore in the Bond movies?
What do you think about Wilde starring opposite Craig? Do you think they’re a good match or an odd combo?
