A boatload of high quality photos have been released in promotion of Martin Scorsese’s latest film, Shutter Island. The film stars DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as U.S. marshals sent to an exclusive mental hospital to investigate a woman’s disappearance. Once they arrive, they’re treated more like patients than members of the government, and slowly but surely they discover the inmates on the island might not be so crazy after all. If that’s not the set up for some creepy stuff to go down, I don’t know what is.

Shutter Island is a period piece that takes place in 1954 during the peak of the Cold War era. This is a time when paranoia was high, and anyone could be confined or criticized for any awkward behavior. You just didn’t know who to trust, and that’s the main theme of this film. The marshals go in thinking that they’re visiting a legitimate psych institution but discover all these horrific secrets that are brewing beneath the surface.
