In 2009 we didn’t get our Marvel blockbuster fix, instead we got more Transformers and more Potter, but 2010 will be a different story. Iron Man is back and he’s going to kick off an awesome line up of Marvel films that will cover the next two years. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige recently spoke to SFX Magazine about the upcoming film slate including the superhero team up movie, The Avengers.

In the interview Feige discussed how Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger will lay down the ground work for the Avengers movie. As a fan of Marvel Comics, there’s a concern that too many characters will be smashed into one film forcing it to be convoluted, but Feige says that’s not the case. For example, with Iron Man 2 there will be several new people introduced to the audience but they never overshadow the main story, which is all about Tony Stark.

He went on to say,”That’s gonna weave into Thor’s story, and Steve Rogers’ story, and it’s already ingrained with Nick Fury’s story and an organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Since Thor will be the follow up film to Iron Man 2, a lot of people want to know how their stories will intertwine. Out of all the Avengers, Thor is based mostly in a fantasy world that centers on Norse Mythology. How do they expect to blend that with the world of Tony Stark?

..we’re doing the Jack Kirby/Stan Lee/Walt Simonson/J. Michael Straczynski Thor. We’re not doing the blow-the-dust-off-of-the-old-Norse-book-in-your-library ‘Thor.’ And in the ‘Thor’ of the Marvel Universe, there’s a race called the Asgardians. And we’re linked through this Tree of Life that we’re unaware of. It’s real science, but we don’t know about it yet. The Thor movie is about teaching people that.”

As for the entire Avengers line up he stated, “It’s three people – four including the Hulk; five including Nick Fury – who you’ve seen before in other movies, coming together for the very first time.” Does this mean that Edward Norton will reprise his role as Bruce Banner in the film? That’s the one thing we’ve all be waiting for.

“I think there’s a chance, its certainly our intention to use the same actors from film to film where we can.”

Dammit Feige, let’s do this! Get Norton on over here so we can make this a real Avengers movie! If Sony weren’t playing so many games with Spider-Man, and Fox screwing up Wolverine, we could have had them join the party too. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait until 2012 for the Avengers release, but Iron Man 2 hits theaters on May 7th of this year. That’s when we’ll get a better idea of all these new characters that Marvel has in store.

What do you think of The Avengers line-up? What do you think of Feige’s plan for Thor?
