Will Ferrell is on the comeback trail after a couple of unsuccessful comedies named Semi-Pro and Land of the Lost. According to Pajiba, the SNL alum will star in a remake of the French film, I Do: How To Get Married and Stay Single. The original was released back in 2006 and barely made a dent in the consciousness of moviegoers, but it did feature a pretty massive cast including Charlotte Gainsbourg.

The remake of I Do is being produced by New Regency and WAM Films, the story centers on a 40 something bachelor whose seven sisters and mother are pressuring him to get married. He hatches a plan to get his friends sister to leave him standing at the alter, so it gives his family the impression that he’s trying to settle down. Something tells me the fake relationship he tries to establish turns into something real, because that’s what always happens in the movies.

At the moment, Ferrell’s schedule appears open. His upcoming comedy The Other Guys with director Adam McKay is in post-production and everything else is in development. Even the long gestating Anchorman sequel, which I’d love to see but the longer they way they less plausible it becomes.

What do you think about Farrell starring in I Do? Have you seen the original version of the film?
