This entire week has gotten off of on the wrong foot with the unfortunate deaths of several showbiz veterans over the past few days. First, James Mitchell who starred as Palmer Cortlandt for 30 years on the ABC soap “All My Children” died, then Hollywood legend Jean Simmons passed away, and now Pernell Roberts from “Bonanza” is no longer with us.

Pernell Roberts was born and bred in Georgia, lived the majority of his adult life in the entertainment business, and died with his wife by his side at the age of 81. Roberts was a well known actor in the television world and appeared on two very popular TV series, “Bonanza” and “Trapper John M. D.”

For six seasons, beginning in 1959 he played the handsome, eldest son Adam Cartwright on the popular Western “Bonanza” alongside Lorne Greene and Michael Landon. After his run, he left the show to concentrate on film and stage work, but returned to the small screen in 1979 to star as the title character in “Trapper John M.D,” and stayed with the series until the end its entire seven year run.

Roberts had been suffering from cancer in recent years, and it was confirmed by his wife as his cause of death. He passed in their Malibu home on Sunday. We send out condolences to his family and friends in their time of mourning.

What was your favorite Roberts’ show, Bonanza or Trapper John M.D.?
