Ghostbusters Going 3-D?
By Krystal ClarkRecently, it was announced that Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third Ghostbusters film in the popular franchise that started over 25 years ago. Now, we’re hearing from the folks over at MarketSaw that the new movie might have a new look, and by new look we mean 3-D! There’s been rumors about this subject matter before, but they claim to have some reliable sources giving them dirt from the inside…
According to them, Ghostbusters 3 will proceed according to plan with the help of stereoscopic 3-D technology. They also went on to say that they couldn’t reveal what special effects house was working on the film but their initials were, ILM. We wonder who that could be *sarcasm*? If you were a fan of the two previous films you can easily see how 3-D would fit into the look of the Ghostbusters world.
The returning cast is said to include Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, and supposedly Bill Murray if he ever decides to give a real confirmation about it. The new script is being written by Len Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, and as long as there’s a decent story the 3-D factor doesn’t really bother me. Ghostbusters is a franchise that lends itself to that type of format and it could definitely work.
Do you think they should make Ghostbusters 3 in 3-D? What are the pros and cons of doing it?

The first two Ghostbuster films were funny without 3D, but I can see how a few ghost effects might be enhanced with the technology. I personally find 3D distracting in mundane scenes (ie the military meeting scenes in Avatar). I'm curious when the wave of 3D films will wane as it did in the 50's. It can't last, or perhaps 3D will eventually find its place on the B shelf with the rest of the monster movies.

Well if Murray's not going to be in it, then the movie will crash and burn. Count me out. I'll save my money.
