Thank goodness this news was announced today, because we needed a break from all the Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien drama. It’s been confirmed that this summer when Iron Man 2 hits conventional theaters, it will also appear in IMAX. That means War Machine, Black Widow, and Nick Fury will be kicking ass in the highest quality.
Today the IMAX Corporation released a statement saying they’ve partnered with Paramount to bring Iron Man to their venues. The film hits theaters on May 7th of this year, and will simultaneously debut at IMAX on the same day. The film’s limited IMAX release will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with IMAX DMR technology.
This is great news considering the first movie got the shaft when it came out 2 years ago. It would have been nice to see the original get this type of treatment, but unfortunately it wasn’t a safe bet then like it is now. There was a lot of skepticism surrounding the film because it was Jon Favreau‘s first blockbuster, and the studio didn’t think the public would buy Downey as Stark. But the amount of money Iron Man brought in within its theatrical run was obviously enough to get IMAX on board this time around.
The company released a very P.C. statement describing their excitement for the film, gushing about how much they respect the character’s history. Deep down we all know it’s about those ‘dolla’ dolla’ bills.’ But here’s what they had to say,
“We’re thrilled to once again be working with Paramount and our long time friends at Marvel Entertainment as we help to bring their characters to life in IMAX,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “The combination of Marvel’s iconic ‘Iron Man’ story, Jon Favreau’s brilliant vision and Paramount Pictures’ talented team coupled with IMAX will make for a wild cinematic experience.”
First it’s IMAX and next it might be IMAX 3-D. Who wants an Avengers movie like that? I would be all over it!
Are you planning on seeing Iron Man 2 in conventional theaters or IMAX?
