We have all heard about the unfortunate events that have literally rocked the nation of Haiti. The list of Hollywood actors and musicians who are aiding in the relief efforts continue to grow, and George Clooney is making sure he does everything he can to get others involved. According to Eonline, the actor is using his name to wrangle some of the biggest talents in town to participate in a Haitian relief telethon.

MTV has already confirmed that they are working with Clooney to put on a telethon to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake. The actor will host the event, which has a tentative air date of January 22nd. It will air on all MTV affiliated networks that includes BET and VH1. Celebrities who dwell on both coasts of the country are set to participate via their Los Angeles or New York locations, therefore no one can use distance as an excuse. The details on how it will all come together are a bit sketchy but we do know that the first people to sign on to the telethon were singer Sting and his wife Trudie Styler.

Plenty of stars have already begun aiding Haiti with generous donations, and have even flown out to lend physical support. Singer-actor Wyclef Jean is a native of the country and caught a flight shortly after the news broke. If you want to aid in any of the Haitian efforts you can send donations via Jean’s organization Yele, or The Red Cross.

Here’s all the updated info regarding show’s air date.

Do you know of any other outlets to donate for Haitian relief?

Celebrities should refrain from soliciting funds from the rest of society for relief efforts. While I am in no way diminishing the suffereing and devestation that has occurred in Haiti, I find it offensive when celebrities hold fund raising activities as it only heightens the awareness of the discrepancies of their income as compared to the rest of us in a struggling economy. It would be more beneficial to just donate the income from one of their movies or as Sandra Bullock did, donate a million dollars, which says more to the American people about their (celebrities) charity activities than hosting a relief benefit.

Most of the people involved in this Telethon, and the previous one, have already given a large amount of money to associations. No matter what celebrities can do or say there are always people to criticize them. At least some people try to help others and that's what matters!
