Finally some form of confirmation has come out of the Ghostbusters camp and it’s from Ivan Reitman himself. Over at MTV the director confirmed that he WILL direct the long awaited sequel Ghostbusters 3, that follows the previous 1984 and 1989 installments. For months there’s been speculation regarding whether or not he’d take on the position, and he recently cleared up all doubt.

While being interviewed on the National Board of Review’s red carpet, Reitman dropped the bomb we’ve all been waiting for. It turns out that the veteran director “ain’t afraid of no ghosts” and will be returning to direct the third film in the franchise. This news follows script speculation from co-stars Harold Ramis and Sigourney Weaver, who dropped a few spoilers regarding the movie’s plot. According to her Bill Murray would return as a ghost and her son Oscar would be a part of a newer, younger team of Ghostbusters. The director didn’t comment on those rumors but did dish on his involvement with the project.

“They have delivered a draft,” Reitman said of the script’s progress. “We are working our way through another draft… good work is being done and all of us have our fingers crossed. I’m not going to comment on what’s in the script and on what Sigourney may or may not have said,” he told us. “She’s been so busy on ‘Avatar,’ I’ve not been able to find her. There’s some very cool things in the new draft, let’s just put it that way.”

When asked it he would be returning to take on helming duties of the upcoming film he stated, “Yes.” It’s good to see the old gang all getting back together, isn’t it? Yes, it is Ivan!
