Danny Boyle‘s follow up to his Oscar winning feature, Slumdog Millionaire will be the real life story of mountaineer Aron Ralston. For months there was speculation about whether or not the director would take on the film, and it was confirmed back in November that he would. Now we’re hearing that the lead role has already been cast and it’s Harry Osborn aka James Franco.

According to Production Weekly Franco will star as Ralston, a man who managed to survive in the cold mountains of Utah when his arm got pinned beneath a boulder. After 5 days he amputated the limb using a dull knife, and proceeded to climb a 65-foot sheer wall to reach his freedom. He eventually encountered a family who gave him food and water, and notified the authorities. The traumatic event happened back in 2003 and was covered by every major media outlet.

Filming on the movie begins in early March in the state of Utah. This makes me happy in so many ways, because I’ve been suffering through Franco’s watered down performance on “General Hospital” for almost 2 months and it’s killing me. He needs a project to revive his amazing talent. Starring as the lead in a movie of this stature will definitely do the trick. I can’t wait to see him get fully involved with the role.

Do you think Franco is the right choice to play Ronston in 127 Hours?
