2010 People’s Choice Award Winners
By Krystal Clark
The winners have been announced for the 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards, and the results weren’t that surprising. The most popular shows, movies and actors dominated the night including The Twilight Saga, Sandra Bullock and Johnny Depp for film, while “House” and “The Big Bang Theory” took home top honors in television.
The amount of Twilight love that was given out during the show was unnerving. For a moment there the People’s Choice Awards looked like they were produced by MTV, and we all know how MTV loves their vampires and werewolves.
Check out the rest of the night’s big winners…
Be prepared to be shocked by the amount of undeserving wins at this year’s show. Some of the actors and films that took home awards make you want to do a double take at the nominations list. Unfortunately, like most ceremony’s the People’s Choice Awards are a popularity contest, but of the worst kind. There’s no stipulations. Anyone can go online and vote, and when you give that kind of power crazy things happen, like this year’s winners…
MOVIES:
Favorite Movie Actor
- Johnny Depp
Favorite Movie Actress
- Sandra Bullock
Favorite Action Star
Favorite Comedic Star
Someone out in the universe actually thought Yes, Man was funny? Giving Jim Carrey an award for comedy these days is a throwback to his early career. It’s no longer relevant. Sandra Bullock on the other hand has been on a roll this past year so her win is no surprise. But why did Hugh Jackman win for Wolverine? I thought we all hated that movie?! Stop encouraging Fox dammit!
Favorite Breakout Movie Actress
Favorite Breakout Movie Actor
Favorite On-Screen Team
All three of these winners were solely chosen by 12 – 15 year olds. Who else has the time to go online and vote for the best actors and movies besides teenagers? The rest of us have jobs, and bills to pay. It’s laughable that Miley Cyrus beat out Anna Kendrick in her category, and it’s even more surprising that Taylor Lautner won over someone as talented as Joseph Gordon-Levitt or as charismatic as Chris Pine.
Favorite Independent Movie
Favorite Comedy Movie
Favorite Movie
- Twilight
Favorite Family Movie
Favorite Franchise
- The Twilight Saga
Favorite Movie Actor Of The Decade
- Johnny Depp
How the hell did The Proposal beat out The Hangover for Best Comedy Movie? I’ll admit that The Proposal isn’t as bad as some people make it out to be, but there’s much to be desired. It’s in no shape or form funnier than The Hangover. Also, Twilight once again raped the competition by being named the best movie and franchise beating out Harry Potter and Star Trek. How is that right?

Favorite Web Celeb
Isn’t it telling when Ashton Kutcher wins an award in the miscellaneous category, and it’s for being a web celebrity? Remember when he used to actually do film and television work? As for the rest of the television categories, “True Blood” is deserving of its award through and through. That show’s like a disease, a welcomed disease that you don’t want to find the cure for.
And how many shows will honor Hugh Laurie as the Best Dramatic Actor for his work on “House,” before the Emmys take notice? Are they trying to pull the same garbage they did with Keifer Sutherland and make him wait it out? Take a hint Emmys, the people have spoken!
What do you think about this year’s People’s Choice winners? What were the biggest disappointments? What surprised you?

yeah wtf twilight is the worst. the voters are blinded with the romantic sappiness of it. i hate that shit. HP and Star Trek are much better competition. The voters are all blind like shit.

Uggggggh this is show only proves the quote: "the people dont know whats best for them"
Twilight is the best movie over: Avatar, District 9, The Road, harry potter, star trek, Up, Public Enemies, Coraline, Precious, Inglorious Basterds, I could go on a long time listing Movies that are better than twilight… No I dont care about people's opinions these movie are simply more deserving of the award.
(insert 110 minute rant about how the People's choice awards suck)
but it's nice to see Jonny Depps recognition he is very diverse actor and quite deserving of the award although if he wasn't so good looking I guarantee he wouldn't even have been nominated by the face value population

i think it was the worst showever. i turned it off when taylor swift won, she is not a country singer, she can't sing, pretty dress likes a queen , not as acountry singer. she enter that to get in the contest years ago.you can tell it's all teen agers who vote.
