Avatar is a theatrical beast that continues to dominate the world wide box office. It’s one of the fastest grossing films of all time, and according to the latest numbers after only 13 days it will be the second largest movie of 2009. After less than two weeks, Avatar is on the heels of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to become one of the most commercially successful releases of the year.
It’s been a very successful year for Sandra Bullock, an actress whose career some thought peaked in the late nineties. In 2009 she headlined three films, The Proposal, All About Steve, and The Blind Side. Two out of three became box office successes, and earned the actress not one, but two Golden Globe nominations. That’s why it’s no surprise that theater owners all over the country have named Bullock the biggest star of the year.

Earlier today we told you that director Peter Jackson would be knighted in his native New Zealand due to his positive impact on the film industry. Now, according to CNN, Patrick Stewart will FINALLY get his due. The British actor has been selected for knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II and her Cabinet Office.
The Weinstein Company has been at the center of a heated debate over their latest release, Nine. The film recently received several Golden Globe nominations including Best Musical/Comedy and Best Actor for Daniel Day Lewis, but it’s left general audiences cold. The film opened in limited release on December 18th and wide on Christmas Day to little fanfare. Rumors began circulating that the Weinsteins might pull the movie out of theaters due to the public’s lack of interest, but according to the studio that’s not the case.
Over the past year we’ve been stalking Edward Norton for the smallest clue on whether or not he’ll reprise his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in future Marvel movies. For the most part the actor has stayed mum on the subject but his Incredible Hulk co-star Tim Roth recently told MTV that he’s open to do more projects, and is signed on to appear in two more films.
Wow, time flies when you’re having fun! Looking back over 2009 there were a number of great films (check out our Top 15) and amazing cinematic moments that you’ll want to remember for the rest of your lives such as Guy Pearce running from a bomb explosion and Eli Roth murdering Hitler several times over. Of course there are a few moments you wish you could forget (like in Antichrist, it still hurts me to think about that scene), but for the most part, the good out weighed the bad.
Luckily for those of us with goldfish memories who might have forgotten some of their favorite moments of the ear, YouTuber, Kees van Dijkhuizen decided to cut together one easy to watch montage of the films of 2009, with everything from big blockbusters like Star Trek and Wolverine to the smaller films like Crazy Heart and Nine.

Director Peter Jackson will finally receive the title he’s been chasing through film for years. According to THR, the Oscar winning director will be one of the many people honored with the title of knight thanks to his contribution to film. He will follow in the footsteps of several other well known actors, singers, and directors who have “Sir” attached to their name.
One of the film’s that made our Top Ten Most Anticipated Films of 2010 list was M. Night Shyamalan’s adaptation of The Last Airbender. The film is based on the series that originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008 and accumulated a solid fanbase throughout its run. Today a couple of photos have popped up from the film that feature star Noah Ringer in character as the last airbender himself, Aang.
