The Last Airbender Behind the Scenes Photos

One of the film’s that made our Top Ten Most Anticipated Films of 2010 list was M. Night Shyamalan’s adaptation of The Last Airbender. The film is based on the series that originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008 and accumulated a solid fanbase throughout its run. Today a couple of photos have popped up from the film that feature star Noah Ringer in character as the last airbender himself, Aang.

Over at /Film, they’ve managed to get a hold of some magazine scans that feature some behind the scenes photos of director Shyamalan and Ringer on set. The film’s original title was Avatar: The Last Airbender, but was changed to avoid confusion with James Cameron‘s sci-fi epic about blue cat-people. The story centers on a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire. The Fire nation are the bad guys and are waging a war against everyone else in order to have total dominance.

The only thing standing in their way is Aang, a prophesied leader who can control all four elements and unite all four nations. He’s aided by his group of friends who stand by his side as he goes head to head with the disgraced Prince Zuko (Dev Patel) of the Fire Nation.

The Last Airbender is scheduled to hit theaters on July 2, 2010.
