A second trailer has been released by DreamWorks Animation for their upcoming film, How to Train Your Dragon. The studio takes a page out of the Disney, Princess and the Frog handbook by highlighting all of its previous films in the trailer as well as the new one. They throw in a little Shrek and some Kung Fu Panda for good measure, but it comes off as a bit tacky…
How to Train Your Dragon centers on a Viking-in-training named Hiccup, (voiced by Jay Baruchel), who becomes the unlikely savior of his village with the help of his dragon. The young man must hunt down the beast, and force it into submission as a means of passage into manhood. Apparently during his day and age, that was the thing for teenage boys to do. As I stated earlier, the latest trailer emphasizes the most popular DreamWorks animated features to usher in their latest film.
The only bad thing about this movie is the reused plot that we’ve seen time and time again. DreamWorks hits such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and even Madagascar all center on unexpected heroes who save the day, and How to Train Your Dragon is no different. They changed the landscape, but it’s the same story through and through.
How to Train Your Dragon hits theaters on March 26, 2010.
What do you think of the new trailer for How To Train Your Dragon? Can you smell the lack of originality?
