The name Ian Fleming is synonymous with the alias’ 007 and James Bond. Fleming was the creator of the character and the popular book series that the film franchise is based. For the most part the author’s life has been hidden behind the fantastical tales of the super spy, but now we will finally get our chance to know the man behind the myth.
According to Pajiba, Palmstar Entertainment and Animus Films are developing a biopic based on the life of Fleming with Scottish actor James McAvoy in the lead role. The film is currently under the working title of Ian Fleming, and is said to cover the life of the writer that leads up to his creation of his famous Bond character. Fleming was described as “likable but lost, until his experiences in World War 2 changed his life, and it was those autobiographical experiences during war time that inspired James Bond.”
The film will be based on the book by Andrew Lycett entitled, “Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond.” The project is independently financed with a budget of 40 million dollars, and with McAvoy as the title character it sounds like a safe bet. He’s one of the best actors of his generation and can pull off a younger vibrant Fleming as well as a toned down older version of the author. The producers are currently on the lookout for a director to take on the film with a script written by Matt Brown.
Do you think McAvoy can pull off Ian Fleming? Who else should they consider for the role?
