Avatar Shatters More IMAX Records
By Krystal Clark
Avatar’s winning streak continues to hold steady after its second week on top of the U.S. box office. Not only did the film lead the way during Hollywood’s largest grossing weekend, but it continues to break records left and right. According to ComingSoon, Avatar is quickly shattering every IMAX record the venues have to break.
Every week there seems to be another triumph that Avatar can add to its resume and recently the IMAX corporation sent out a statement praising the film’s latest feat. James Cameron‘s sci-fi film has already reached an unprecedented 39 million dollars in less than 14 days, which is quite an accomplishment. Here’s what the company had to say about the film’s progress…
“To have reached $39 million from 249 screens in just 10 days demonstrates that moviegoers clearly understand the value of experiencing Avatar in IMAX,” added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “James Cameron, Jon Landau and Lightstorm realized the vision of this film in IMAX, and we’re continuing to see the incredibly positive way that moviegoers are responding to that vision.”
The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince were two of the most successful films to be released in IMAX and Avatar is on their tails. The majority of this success can be attributed to the special effects, technology, and 3-D aspect of the film that movie goers want to see in full effect. Even Cameron himself endorsed the IMAX Experience over conventional theaters as the best way to view the film.
Did you watch Avatar in IMAX? Do you recommend the venues as the best way to see the film?

I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was extraordinary. Do it!

I recommend the film in IMAX 3D as long as it is shown on a true Max screen and not one of the no-thrills MiniMax widescreen theaters that do not look any different than a normal Real3D theater screen. The only difference being that the sound system will deafen you. If "Avatar" isn't displayed on a large 5 story, totally immersive IMAX screen, then the experience is only like watching a big HD movie in a larger room without actually feeling like you are there with the characters, which you get in spades with a 5 story 3D IMAX viewing.
