A while ago it was announced that director Martin Scorsese would be honored at this year’s Golden Globes with the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. According to Comingsoon, the presenters of the award have been announced and their both Scorsese collaborators from the past and present.
Two days after the Golden Globe nominations, it’s been revealed that Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio will team up to honor the man they love and respect. A lot of people have stated that DiCaprio is a modern day De Niro and the fact that they’ll reunite to pay homage to the man who changed their careers will be eerie to watch. The actors have previously worked together on film, most notably in the drama This Boy’s Life, where De Niro played Leo’s father figure.
When thinking of who should present the award, DeNiro was the first name that popped into my head. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that DiCaprio is getting in on the action but the relationship between Scorsese and Robert is on a whole other level. They pretty much grew as men in the industry and have had a lot of major successes together. De Niro previously honored the director when he was awarded at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2007, so he’s always on hand to support his old friend.
The Golden Globe Awards will air on NBC (5 to 8 pm PT, 8 to 11 pm ET) on January 17, 2010.
What do you think about DeNiro and DiCaprio presenting Scorsese with the Cecil B. DeMille award this year?
