Last night we brought you some high quality photos from the upcoming Ridley Scott drama, Robin Hood and today we’ve got the first international trailer. The film stars Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett as the fabled Robin Hood and Maid Marian. After watching this trailer a few times, you might wonder if this is the Gladiator sequel Scott always wanted to make.
Earl of Huntington, (Crowe) has returned to his North English village after fighting in the Third Crusade. Upon arrival, the nobleman and his servant discover the oppression caused by the new Sheriff of Nottingham (Matthew Macfadyen). Sir Robin uses his intelligence and military skills to free his home village from tyranny and corruption by taking back what is rightfully his, to restore justice and happiness to England. Robin must also win the affection of the recently widowed Lady Marian (Blanchett), while leading his Merry Men of Sherwood Forest to victory and fair.
Universal’s decision to premiere the film’s trailer today was a shock to everyone, but after watching it I can understand why. The trailer tries very hard to make Robin Hood and his Merry Men look as hardcore as possible. The ending shot of a bloodied Crowe with bow in hand is proof of that. We also can’t ignore the Gladiator imagery that’s going on here. At any moment I was expecting Djimon Hounsou to pop up and start reciting dialogue.
What do you think of the first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood?
