Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time star Jake Gyllenhaal recently appeared at Spike TV’s 2009 Video Game Awards and he brought a gift. The actor took to the stage to present an exclusive clip from the film that won’t hit theaters until next summer. It’s about a minute long and is pure popcorn fun. It’s like Stephen Sommers popcorn fun, but better.
In the film, Gyllenhaal plays Prince Dastan a young man who reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (Gemma Arterton) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. The featured clip is more of a mini trailer than anything else. Jake gives an intro to the video and states that the film isn’t finished so he couldn’t show much.
Does anyone else remember when The Prince of Persia was supposed to come out in the summer of ’09 but Disney pushed it back? I still do, and my bitterness remains. Their main argument was that they needed more time to do the film’s special effects. What do you think?
Here’s the clip from the movie.
