Next year, we’ll see a couple of new comic based films, and one of them will be Warner Bros’ Jonah Hex. The movie is scheduled for release on June 18th, but has recently hit a snag. Over at SpoilerTV they’ve discovered a new casting call that suggests the crew will be going back into production for reshoots.

People are generally afraid of the reshoots, because it gives the implication that the original material shot wasn’t good enough. It also means that more scenes have been added, or rewritten to improve the story in some way. The released casting sheet features several key roles that might be used in flashback sequences or filler shots.

[CASSIE] – wife of ‘Jonah Hex’ (Josh Brolin). Native American. Pretty, young, sexy.

[TRAVIS] – age 9 (to play younger)… Must be a match to Josh Brolin and Native American ‘Cassie’.

[JEB TURNBULL] – son of ‘Quentin Turnbull’ (John Malkovich). 30 – 35. Skinny, southern accent. Needs one or two days for prosthetics.

[PRESIDENT ANDREW JOHNSON] – 50-60. Look alike, if possible.

[ADVISOR] – to President Johnson. Younger, 1870′s version of a “West Wing” character.

[DEAD GUY] – late 20s/30s. Scary looking.. May need a day for prosthetics/possible make-up.

Hex’s wife and kid are an important part of his story so obviously they want to beef up his background. When skimming through the IMDB page for the film I noticed an actress named Natacha Itzel is listed as “Jonah’s Wife,” but since a casting call has been sent out for that role her footage may end up on the cutting room floor.

There must be some trouble in paradise, because another report via, BloodyDisgusting suggests that director Jimmy Hayward might not return for the reshoots, and I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence will take over instead. At the moment, they’re classifying it as a rumor so until it’s confirmed we’ll take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully this doesn’t mean bad news for the film, because Josh Brolin looks like he’ll be a great Jonah Hex.

What do you think about Jonah Hex going in for reshoots?
