Remember when everyone was convinced that the My Fair Lady remake would be another reunion between actress Keira Knightley and director Joe Wright? That’s not going to happen because months ago he stated that he was offered the film but decided to pass on it. That left the gig open for someone else and according to Variety that someone is John Madden.
Madden has nothing to do with football or shoes, but he’s an award winning director. If his name doesn’t ring bells how about the movie Shakespeare in Love? It was the 1998 feature that robbed…won the Oscar for Best Picture over Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan. He directed that period piece and it looks like he might take on another. Columbia Pictures are behind the remake and are currently in negotiations with Madden to helm the film.
In the studio’s defense, they plan on basing this version more on the original book and play as opposed to the 1964 George Cukor feature adaptation. Here’s an even better idea that can nip that comparison problem in the bud, don’t make it at all. Who out there is losing sleep over there not being another My Fair Lady? The original version is fine the way it is.
What do you think of John Madden taking on the My Fair Lady remake?
