Is there a legitimate reason to remake The Amityville Horror when it was already done 4 years ago? According to Bloody Disgusting that’s exactly what’s going to happen thanks to Dimension Films and the Weinstein Company. The 1979 horror flick was remade in 2005 by Michael Bay‘s production company Platinum Dunes, and went on to gross over 100 million dollars worldwide, but that wasn’t enough because here comes another one.
The window for remakes continues to shrink. What ever happened to a good 20 year gap between the original and the new version of a film? The Amityville Horror was based on a book which recounted the murders of a family in 1974, where a man killed multiple relatives stating that voices made him do it. The events are supposedly based on a true story but as time progresses more and more skeptics have come out of the woodwork regarding the accuracy of the murders.
The 2005 version of The Amityville Horror starred Ryan Reynolds as a father gone mad, Melissa George as his wife, and Chloe Moretz as their young daughter. The sad thing about this whole concept is that this remake wasn’t that bad. Granted I caught it on cable and didn’t see it in theaters, but it was a pretty decent recount. The film already being remade is almost as bad as the Fantastic Four reboot which is supposed to take place sometime soon even though the last film was released in 2007.
What do you think of Dimension remaking The Amityville Horror?
