The Crow Getting Cast?

How and why is The Crow remake still underway? A while ago news broke that the cult comic character would once again appear on the big screen thanks to producer Ryan Kavanaugh. Over at io9, they got the man behind the movie to dish about where they are in regards to the film’s development.

The first big thing Kavanaugh discussed was The Crow’s casting. People want to know who’s going to take over the iconic role that Brandon Lee originated. According to him he can’t reveal too much, but their in the process of finding the right person.

We’re looking. We’re in discussions….I think it’s something cool, we’re approaching it differently. It’s really a whole relaunch of the franchise, much more of a dark superhero type.  It will be an actor you’ve heard of, yes. We’re not ruling anything out. We’re looking at both, with the very well known and the “very talented but they may not be quite there yet.”

Hmm, this leaves the flood gates for speculation wide open. The major piece of news that came out of this interview, had to do with thoughts on how this film will live up to the original. He stated that it’s not a remake, and “the best way to compare it is [by looking at] the first Batman and Batman Begins. In terms of their look and feel and character.”

If he follows those guidelines and produces a film that’s equally good or even better than the first, he would have achieved something. What relevant actor could takeover this role and not overshadow the character? Christian Bale was a known actor but nowhere as big as he is now, so his persona didn’t over shadow Batman/Bruce Wayne. They need someone who can balance that with this new film.

Who do you think should star in The Crow?

Do it animated, do it black and white. Use the comic as a place to start, for story and design, if its not broken don't fix it…. Eric's voice? James O'Barr…..

This one's a bit different, but I'd say… Vincent Kartheiser (Angel, Mad Men). He has that look, and has played dark, conflicted (and supernatural) characters in the past. I think he'd make an amazing Crow, and it would help for him to get a bit more recognition as an actor.

Normally I don't rip on remakes, I mean the talentless in Hollywood lately are lining their pockets by making shallow reality tv shows and awful remakes. But to rape a film that a man died while filming, that's just low. It isn't pedophile low but it's pretty damn low.

The line from the movie is true love lives forever, which is perfect since the movie will live forever AS IT IS!It does NOT deserve to be given the remake treatment just so some jerk-off can make a buck by pissing on Brandon’s grave!LEAVE IT BE!!!!!

I think the remake isn't needed. Brandon's life was lost during the making of the first, so the movie will live on with his memories. I think it would dishonor him if you make a live action remake. An animated based directly on the comics would be alright, but not live action….

don’t remake it. it’s a good movie and it would be an insult. don’t remake every movie and screw everything up.

A remake will only be okay if it’s closer to source material than Brandon Lee’s Crow. Just follow the book exactly and it might be a compliment to James instead of more insults like the sequels… your ideas were perfect James, they didn’t have to be changed.
