The Twilight Saga: New Moon hit theaters today and fans literally fought tooth and nail for their opening night tickets. Last year when Twilight debuted it brought in an estimated 70 million dollars during its opening weekend, and with the growing popularity of its lead stars New Moon looks to blow that number out of the water!
According to the Huffingting Post, New Moon is expected to bring in anywhere between 85 to 100 million dollars this weekend. The film has already become the largest advance ticket seller of all-time nabbing the top spot from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, which set the record back in 2005. On Thursday, 2,000 theater owners reported that their New Moon screenings were sold out, which makes this weekend look even more promising.
The Twilight Saga has single handedly made Summit Entertainment a force to be reckoned with. They’ve been able to turn the popularity of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner into a virtual gold mine thanks to the movie’s dedicated fan base. Fans actually camped out SEVERAL days prior to New Moon’s Los Angeles premiere to get a peek at the actors and slept at their local theater to get opening night tickets.
The Twilight phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down, especially with a third (Eclipse) and possible fourth film (Breaking Dawn) on the horizon.
Will you be seeing New Moon tonight or did you attend the midnight show?
