It looks like Aussie actor Sam Worthington has another job to add to his growing resume according to the folks over at Mania. They’ve learned from a close source that he’s signed on to star in the live action adaptation of the yet to be released Radical Publishing title, The Last Days of American Crime.
The Last Days of American Crime is described as a “heist thriller told against a sci fi backdrop.” The story takes place in near-future America, news has broken that, in a matter of weeks, the government is set to roll out mind-control technology that will kill the criminal impulse in all citizens. Chaos descends on America’s cities as the country braces for the new order. Career criminal Graham Brick is forced to accelerate the heist of his career with an untested new crew in order to beat the deadline.
One of the creators of the comic, Rick Remender stated that Worthington won’t be the only star signing on to this project. The producers have their eyes on some of the best actors in the business.
Remender said that additional announcements in terms of cast, director and studio will be coming fast. “Producer Michael Schwarz and Barry Levine have been working very hard on this. The people that they’re bringing in are all big A-list Hollywood people.”
It doesn’t surprise me that the producer’s are trying to get a lot of A-List talent for the film, because these days they can do that. Thanks to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Iron Man actors are realizing that they can be in a comic based movie with a decent storyline. Worthington sounds like a perfect fit for this part, but lets pray he gets some coaching for his Australian accent, which manages to creep out every now and again.
What do you think about Worthington taking on a part in the film?
